ECUADOR HIGH ALTITUDE CLIMBING PACKAGE - 10 DAYS

This authentic climbing trip is well designed for mountaineers that want to challenge themselves with more technically demanding mountains. It is be a great opportunity to enjoy climbing the Ecuadorian volcanoes and broaden your climbing skills.

Itinerary:


Day 1: Arrival in Quito Ecuador 2800 m – 9350 ft.

Pick up at the airport and transfer to Quito.
 
Day 2: City tour 2800 m - 9350 ft. 
You will meet in the morning at the hotel with your guide for breakfast, discuss any questions about the itinerary, and drive to Old Town for city tour. Visiting Quito’s old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site is a must see for any visitor to Ecuador. We will admire some well-preserved colonial architecture churches, buildings, and houses. At Quito’s altitude, this day consists the first part of the acclimatization process. We will also run a gear check in the evening. 


Day 3: Cerro Corazon 4790 m – 15,715 ft                  
We will drive for one and a half hours to the national park entrance where the trailhead starts at 4000 m - 13,123 ft. We will hike for about 4 hours to the top following a well-marked trail. The last 100 m (~300 ft) is steep and scrambling. We will use the rope in this exposed section. After the summit, we hike down to the car park and drive to El Chaupi town, where we will spend a night in a beautiful cozy inn.


Day 4: Iliniza hut 4700 m – 15,510 ft                  
After a delicious breakfast, we’ll drive south to Iliniza parking lot where we’ll meet with the horse driver to load the horse and start our hike up for two to three hours to the hut. After an early dinner we’ll go to bed for a good night’s rest.


Day 5: Iliniza south 5262 m – 17,364 ft 

We will rise at 3:00am for an alpine start with a light breakfast and then start gearing up for the climb. We will hike for one hour on the moraine and rope up for climbing a 20 m – (70ft) couloir (4 class terrain). After this 10 minute short pitch we will arrive at the glacier. With crampons on we will ascend  a steady steep 45-50 degrees slope for 2-3 hours to reach the summit. We will descend following the same route (some belay can be offered if needed on descent)

After the summit, we’ll return to the hut where we will enjoy a hot drink and start packing for the descent to the parking lot where transportation will be waiting to drive back to the same hotel.


Day 6: Antisana Base Camp 4600 m – 15,180 ft 
We will have a late breakfast and drive for three hours to the Advanced Base Camp of Antisana (night in tents) 


Day 7: Antisana Summit 5740 m - 18,827 ft 
 We will wake up at 11:00pm and have a light breakfast before gearing up. The climb is about 6-7 hours to reach the summit. Descent will take 3-4 hours to the camp. Overnight in tents at Antisana Base Camp.


Day 8: Weather window day.

Day 9: 
Pack up and drive back to Quito. (Flight out at midnight, optional)


Day 10: 
Fly home.
