White Mountain Range Alpamayo Package

12 days

This beautiful climbing trip is designed for mountaineers that have previous experience in mountaineering expeditions and want to abroad their climbing skills with ice climbing and long expeditions.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Lima. Transfer to a local hotel in the Miraflores neighborhood.

Day 2: Travel to Huaraz, 3000 m – 9842 ft
You will access a service bus (7 hrs) from Lima to Huaraz or fly into Huaraz (check LCPeru.com for available flights). Huaraz is a gorgeous Andean town and considered a mountaineering Mecca for climbers from all over the world. Your guide will pick you up at the bus station or airport and take you to the hotel. This day, as you'll get into town early in the morning, we'll relax and start the acclimatization process with a small hike in the afternoon. We will run a gear check in the evening.

Day 3: Churup Lake 4300 m – 14,107 ft
This day we'll continue to acclimatize. We’ll drive for a couple of hours to the trail head and see first the spectacular turquoise Churup Lake. After hiking for another 3 hrs we'll arrive at our destination. We’ll enjoy the unique view of the range and hike down to the car park. We’ll drive back to Huaraz and stay at the same hotel.

Day 4: Lake 69  4550 m - 14,904 ft
In our second full acclimating day, we'll start very early in the morning from Huaraz (7:00am), jump in the car, and drive east toward Callejon del Huaylas, a remote valley that connects most of the Cordillera Blanca range. We'll head up to Yanganuco National park, drive for about three hrs and get to the Cebollapampa camp site at 3850 m (12,631 ft), where we'll start the hike following a well marked trail that leads to Lake 69. The hike is about 3-4 hrs, and you’ll see one of the most beautiful lakes in the area surrounded by many famous snowed peaks like, Chacraraju, Huandoys, Pisco, Yanapaccha, Chopicalqui, and the big mountain Huascaran. After enjoying the view and eating lunch, we'll head back to the parking lot and drive back to Huaraz.

Day 5: Huarapasca 5418 m – 17,757 ft

We’ll have an alpine start today (1:00am), driving southwest for 3 hours, and get to the trail head that leads to the glacier entrance. Once on the glacier, we'll put crampons on and start a 40-45 degree slope that gradually gets steeper up to 55-60 degrees. We'll climb 3 sustained pitches and get to the summit. This point offers a great view of the Cordillera Blanca range. This particular mountain is good training for climbing Alpamayo. After the summit we'll get down and drive back to Huaraz.

Day 6: Llama Corral 3900 m – 12,795 ft
We’ll start driving to Cashapamba village where we’ll meet our donkey drivers and porters. After a three-hour hike, we will arrive at our first high camp and spend the first night in tents.

Day 7: Alpamayo Base Camp 4300 m – 14,107 ft
We’ll hike following the Santa Cruz valley passing beside the astonishing Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha lakes surrounded by Caraz, Santa Cruz, and Quitaraju mountains. Our base camp will be located nearby a Quenual (polipephys tree) woods.

This day, with the help of our high altitude porters, we'll move our camp to a flat moraine beside the glacier.

By this time, we are well acclimatized and ready for a big push to move to advanced base camp. The sunsets at camp are phenomenal.

Rising early at 1:00 am, we will prepare for one of the most dreamed of summits in life. We’ll start roped up right from advanced base camp and head up to a steep slope to get into the final coluoir. After eight sustained pitches on 60-70 degrees will reach this spectacular summit. We will rappel down and head back to camp. After some rest, food, and water we will pack up the camp to head down to the base camp.

Day 11: Huaraz.
A 5 hours hike down following the Santa Cruz valley will take us back to Cashapamba where the transport will pick us up to drive to Huaraz.
